Patricia Brownfield, Teacher
Students in the Environmental Science Club at Phillip A. Sharp Middle School are very excited about the Trout in the Classroom Project. There are students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in the group. Our school is in a rural district so many of the students like to hunt, fish, and be in the outdoors. Raising the trout is another way to add to our outdoor environment and we can’t wait!
Phillip A. Sharp Middle School is one of 12 schools in Kentucky that has been selected to take part in this project. Last year only one school in Kentucky participated, and this year there are twelve schools. The students in the Environmental Education Science Club at the school have been working to prepare for the arrival of the trout-eyed eggs. They have practiced doing the water monitoring tests and have set up their journals for keeping records as the projects progresses. A water monitoring and tank assessment log has been created by Mrs. Brownfield to make keeping our records easier. We are all very excited and will keep you posted as the year goes continues.
